Holy Week Preparations

Holy Week is such an incredible time. We kicked it off with a Palm Sunday celebration in our home. We made this "palm of palms" for the first time & I think it turned out really cute! We also read what I believe to be one of my new favorite books "Little Colt's Palm Sunday". It is such a sweet & beautiful story. Check it out. The girls & I went to Mass on Holy Wednesday (Andrew was already there with his class) & they were actually good! Rebecca usually does fine nowadays, but that Teresa...whew! I took it as a Holy Week blessing.
On Holy Thursday the last few years we have had a special meal to remember the Last Supper. There wasn't any lamb, bitter herbs, or wine (ideally the kids would EAT at suppertime) but it is special. We set up a table downstairs (since we don't have an "upper room"), read the story of the Last Supper, & enjoy a variety of finger foods... the closest we can be to "in flight".
The kids got a kick out of it & it's something memorable to say the least. Darren offered to stay home with the kiddos afterwards while I went to Mass & confession alone. It was wonderful! Good Friday was a quiet day. No TV, no computer, no radio, just quiet. During the hours of 12-3, while Teresa was napping, the big kids played in the basement. I went down every 30 minutes & we read a part of the passion together then said a few prayers. It was really nice to pray with them repeatedly... by the end they were looking forward to the next time I would come down.
Holy Saturday kicked off with a bang as we helped with our parish Easter Egg Hunt. Our Godteens (& the sophomores, too) were in charge of putting together a morning of fun. We had Easter coloring pages waiting for them when they came in.We had egg spoon races & then the hunt was on! Someone very wise decided a while ago not to fill the eggs with candy. They just hunt, bring them in, & swap them for a bunny goodie bag. Lot less clean up & a lot less crazy egg snatchers!Andrew was excited to wear Darren's old bunny costume for the morning. He was a big hit! One of the sophomores dressed up in the big bunny costume... here Andrew is trying on the head. Our Godteens were such a great help & they had a lot of fun together on their old playground. It was a fun time.
Afterwards we made our annual visit to the local farm store to see the baby chickies, duckies, & bunnies. Teresa was in awe! I was honestly brainstorming how we could bring home a couple for a few weeks because I knew it would keep her attention FOREVER! Then we enjoyed lunch out at a mexican restaurant with excellent green salsa. When we came home, Teresa took a nap while we colored Easter eggs. Quite the variety! I wish I had a better shot of this one Andrew is holding because it was my favorite: a king complete with crown, smile, & "cape".
